81st Stated Meeting
Presbytery of Tres Rios
February 1, 2008
Trinity Presbyterian Church

The 81st stated meeting of The Presbytery of Tres Rios was called to order with prayer by Moderator Cheryl Homsher at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, February 1, 2008 at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Midland.  The presbytery gathered for worship, communion and the reading of the necrology.  Sherry Holloman welcomed the presbytery to First Presbyterian Church.

Actions taken during the meeting:

Nominating Committee

Elected Bill Schlesinger, Dick Baggett, Jose Luis Casal and Molly Owen to serve as Synod Commissioners.

Committee on Ministry

  • Examined and received the Rev. John Nelsen to serve as Pastor of University, El Paso.

  • Examined and received the Rev. Tim Davenport-Herbst to serve as Co-Pastor of St Paul, San Angelo.

  • Commissioned Bea Torres to serve as Commissioned Lay Pastor at Nazareth, San Angelo.

  • Examined and received the Rev. Desiree Youngblood to serve as Pastor of First, Sanderson.

·           Committee on Church Development

 Approved a grant from the Small Church Fund for Nazareth Presbyterian Church.

Presbytery Council

  • Elected Mike Robinson and Nolan Beall to serve on the Financial Services-Sub Committee.

  • Elected Mary Margaret Davis and Joyce Bronaugh to serve on the Personnel Sub-Committee.

  • Elected Jim Pattee, Shannon Weisenfels and Bert Bronaugh to serve on the Nominating Committee.

Financial Services Sub-Committee

Approved the 2008 Presbytery Budget

Committee on Mission

Approved the proposed policy for mission committee support of congregation based mission projects.

Committee on Training and Nurture

  • Powerpoint presentation was made highlighting the work of the Youth Mission Trip to Port Arthur, Texas

  • Presbytery will provide a bus for travel to Synod Youth Workshop.  Cost will be $100 per participant.

  • Education event is being planned for October 17-18, 2008 at First Presbyterian Church, San Angelo.  Theme for the event will be "new Wind - New Fire" with a focus on evangelism.

Also heard reports from the General Missioner, Treasurer, Second Harvest Committee and the Presbyterian Women and enjoyed the wonderful hospitality of the Trinity Congregation.
