Presbytery Meeting Highlights....

82nd Stated Meeting - June 13, 2008
Divine Savior Presbyterian Church

The 82nd Stated Meeting of Tres Rios Presbytery was called to order at 9:00 a.m. by Moderator Pat Hunter. The presbytery was recessed for worship and communion with the Rev. Sherry Holloman preaching and a special youth choir composed of members from all El Paso area churches.

Actions taken during the meeting were:

Stated Clerk, Patty Lane presented the Stated Clerk’s Report and Parity Report for 2007. 
Heard report from Ann Earnest, Presbyterian Church Foundation.
Synod of the Sun Executive, Judy Fletcher brought greetings from the Synod to the presbytery.
Synod Commissioner Bill Schlesinger presented the report of the Synod Commissioners.
Heard report from the Rev. Jose Luis Casal, General Missioner.
Joyce Bronough, Moderator presented a report for the Tres Rios Presbyterian Women.

Committee on Ministry

Approved the contract for Rev. Bert Bronaugh to serve as interim pastor to First, Big Spring.
Approved annual reports from non-parish ministers.
Dismissed the Rev. Harry Cole to Sierra Blanca Presbytery.
Dissolved the relationship between Nora Fitch and First, Odessa effective June 13, 2008 and dismissed Nora to New Covenant Presbytery.
Released Dana Mayfield, candidate under the care of Tres Rios Presbytery, to accept a call to serve as pastor of First Presbyterian Church, Colorado City, pending ordination by Palo Duro Presbytery.
Released Phil Brown, candidate under the care of Tres Rios Presbytery, to accept a call to serve as Associate Pastor at St Luke’s Church, Dunwoody, GA pending ordination by Greater Atlanta Presbytery.
Approved changes in terms of call for Tres Rios ministers.
Commissioned Jim Morgan to serve as Commissioned Lay Pastor for First, Marfa for one year.

Committee on Preparation for Ministry

Elected the Rev. Glenda Harbert and the Rev. Lewis Allen to serve as principal readers for ordination exams for 2008.

Presbytery Council

Elected the Rev. Jim Longstreet to serve on the Personnel Sub-Committee.
Approved changes to the Standing Rules of the presbytery as the first reading.

Worship and Meetings Sub-Committee

Approved 2009 meeting dates for Tres Rios Presbytery as follows: February 20, 2009, June 12, 2009, October 16-17, 2009
Approved the Ordination/Installation Services Policy for the presbytery.

Financial Services Sub-Committee

Received the Treasurer’s Report.
Builders Fellowship Call for Grace, Midland totaled $7762.10.
The Fall Call for the Builders Fellowship will be issued to Highland, El Paso for replacement of the roof damaged in storms.
Approved a Small Church Fund Grant in the amount of $15,000 for Highland, El Paso for replacement of their roof.
Approved the Oil and Gas Lease between First, Barstow and Hilliard Energy and authorized the presbytery trustees to execute the lease.

Church Development Committee

Approved the "Church Development Committee Strategy Plan for Tres Rios Presbytery."

Committee on Mission

Costa Rica Mission Trip is scheduled for July 22-29, 2008 with 10 people participating.
Youth Mission Trip is scheduled for June 22-28, 2008 with 61 people participating.
Approved the Mission Networking Policy for the presbytery.
Mary Breden presented the presbytery with a certificate and cross given in gratitude to the presbytery from the Colombia Presbyterian Church.

Committee on Training and Nurture

Presbytery Wide Educational Event - New Wind: New Fire will be held October 17-18, 2008 at First, San Angelo.
Pastor/Spouse Retreat will be held November 20-22, 2008 at Indian Lodge.
