Cecilia Casal, Moderator

On April 2010 I was installed as PW Moderator of Tres Rios Presbytery for the term 2010-2012 taking the oath to represent Presbyterian Women at any level required by my position.

Due to the extended territory of the presbytery, PW decided last year to celebrate a Spring Gathering for the Western churches in El Paso and another in Midland for the Eastern churches. The success of this model was ratified by the good attendance we had in both meetings, this model also facilitate a close interaction between local groups and members of the Coordinating Team.

This year 2010 we had our West Spring Gathering at Trinity Presbyterian Church in El Paso on April 7 attended by 42 women and one man. The East Spring Gathering was held at First Presbyterian Church in Midland on April 10 attended by 62 women and two men. The total attendance was 104 women.

The Rev. Eugenia Gamble, director of Spiritual Development at First Presbyterian Church, San Luis Obispo, CA was the keynote speaker. Her message “PW footprints in mission” challenged and energized us to continue developing the mission orientation that had characterized Presbyterian Women along the history.

It was collected two offerings: a love offering for Eugenia Gamble in the amount of $613.00 as a contribution to her expenses and the Justice and Peace offering in the amount of $1,132.00. Half of this offering was dedicated to the project “Solar under the Sun” an international project of the Synod of the Sun and the Synod of Living Waters that provide solar power to operate water treatment facilities which have been in use worldwide.

The water treatment facilities have been used in Haiti after the earthquake to provide drinking water and electric energy for communities and camps of evacuated people. The second half of the offering was designated for the “Willie Hall-Barstow Scholarship” that helps to buy books for seminary students from Tres Rios Presbytery with annual grants of $1,000 dollars per seminarian.

The 2011 East Spring Gathering will be hosted by Church of the Good Shepherd in Sonora and we are waiting to hear from another church in the West to host the gathering for that area.

The Calendar of activities for the rest of 2010 is:

. PW Coordinating Team, regular meeting on August 14 at the Presbytery Office.

. The cluster meetings schedule is: Mountain Cluster on September 11, Creation and Crossroad on September 18 and Concho Valley on October 9, Desert Rose Cluster on October 16.

Please mark your calendars and keep in your prayers all of this activities.

I want to express my gratitude to the women who elected me for this position I will do my best to be faithful to their trust but I need your prayers and help for the next two years. I have no doubt of the support and care of my Lord but I need also your personal care and love to do this work together for the glory of His Name and His Church.

Thanks be to God for the privilege to serve Him through the Presbyterian Women of Tres Rios.
