Celebrations

The Church of the Good Shepherd of Sonora celebrated its 50th anniversary on June 17, 2007, with praise to God for His abundant providence, and with thankful remembrance for the sturdy founders of the church.

The Church of the Good Shepherd was organized on June 13, 1957, in the sanctuary of St. John/s Episcopal Church in Sonora , with 40 communicants enrolled as charter members. R. W. Jablonowski moderated the meeting, with Flynn V. Long, Sr. as Clerk, on behalf of Mid-Tex Presbytery.

Since that time, the church has had its ups and downs. (That's an inside joke. Former minister Jim Miles once addressed the church, "This congregation has its ups and downs--they're either up at the river or down at the lake.")

By God's leading, the church has been a place of grace and precious fellowship for its members, bearing a strong witness to the community of Sonora , and contributions generously to Christ's mission in West Texas and beyond.
